Pregnancy testing / Beta HCG
If scheduled early in the day, we can offer you same-day results on your pregnancy test.
We use a quantitative HCG test, which checks for the presence of the pregnancy hormone HCG. This test confirms your pregnancy after an initial positive urine test result. It can also give you an idea of how far along your pregnancy is, as your body’s levels of HCG double every 72 hours after conception, until reaching their peak around 9 or 10 weeks.

What is HCG testing?
HCG is the hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin, which your body produces when you are pregnant. It is made by the same cells that form the placenta, which nourishes the embryo.
When can I have the test?
A blood test will pick up the presence of the HCG hormone roughly 11 days after conception. If you are not sure when exactly conception may have occurred, the HCG or an initial home urine test can be taken on or after the due date of your next period.
What are the next steps?
If your test shows that you are pregnant, and you want to continue with your pregnancy, you will need to continue monitoring your HCG hormone level to ensure that it is increasing at a sufficient rate. The next step is either get a referral back to your GP, who will carry out further monitoring, or you can continue to manage your pregnancy privately with us at the clinic, and with our recommended specialists.
If you do not want to continue with your pregnancy, you can speak to your GP, a community contraceptive clinic, a sexual health/GUM clinic, or contact Marie Stopes clinics, to discuss your options.
