We offer a range of blood tests that screen for the markers of certain types of cancer. Markers are chemicals that tumorous cancers make, & the presence of which can be tested for in your blood. The tests we offer are:
- CA 50 for bladder & colorectal cancer
- CA 19-9, for cancer of the GI tract, colorectal cancer, & pancreatic cancer
- CA 15-3, for breast cancer
If you aren’t sure which blood test you need, feel free to contact one of our team members to guide you.
When should I get tested?
The cancer blood tests are recommended by a doctor usually to monitor how well your body is responding to cancer treatment, & can also be used to watch for recurrence of the disease if you have had it in the past.
In some cases, such as pancreatic cancer, the blood tests can be used to help with diagnosis.
What does the test include
The cancer tests are blood tests.
What to Expect
Step 1
Preparing for test
It is helpful to arrive for a blood test well-hydrated, to facilitate the sample process, but no other special preparation is needed.
Step 2
During the test
The doctor or nurse will take a sample of blood from your inner arm, near the elbow, using a needle. It is a quick process & relatively painless.
Step 3
Results
We will email your results over to you as soon as we receive them from the laboratory. If the test was suggested by one of our clinic’s doctors, the same doctor will call you & go over the results with you. If you didn't have a consultation at our clinic, you can take the results to your own doctor or come back to us for a consultation.
