FAQs

Why do I need a medical to obtain a visa?

UK citizens need a medical check for a long-term stay visa in Greece because, since Brexit, they are treated as third-country nationals, not EU citizens. Greece applies the same immigration and public-health rules to UK nationals as it does to other non-EU nationals. A medical ensures that long-term residents from outside the EU do not pose a public-health risk.

What happens if I "fail" my medical?

If your visa medical does not initially meet the requirements, we will support you throughout the process. This includes providing clear health guidance and advising you on the next steps needed to address any issues and complete the medical sign-off required for your visa application.

Can I get my visa medical application signed off at the NHS?

Your visa medical must be conducted and signed off by a private clinic with an FCO-registered doctor, in line with visa application requirements.

Do I need a TB blood test for a Greek long-term visa?

A TB blood test (IGRA test) is not required for Greek long-term visas. However, you will be required to undergo a chest X-ray to screen for TB.
