HIV testing can be stressful. Our clinics know this and ensure a stress-free experience with quick, confidential results for your peace of mind. We also do HIV testing for work and travel purposes.

Our team at the Harley Street Health Centre is committed to providing the most effective, fast, and accurate testing for serious illnesses. Early diagnosis is crucial when it comes to HIV, as early detection of the virus means better management of the disease and a better outlook for our patients. One of the major benefits of the 4th generation HIV Test is that it can provide results in just 4 to 6 working hours. The optimal time for testing is at least 6 weeks after suspected exposure to the virus.

For earlier detection, you can consider multiplex testing, which is accurate at 10 days but may still require retesting after a window period passes. HIV RNA testing also available after 10 days.

The test works by checking for the antibodies that the body produces in response to HIV infection – these antibodies bind to the antigens of the virus to fight the infection.
The test will give you a clear indication of infection in exceptionally fast turnaround time, making it an excellent method for detection of an early HIV infection. Whatever your result, our knowledgeable doctors will act quickly to give you peace of mind and the best possible treatment and advice.

If you have no symptoms and are testing for peace of mind, there is no consultation fee payable.

However, if you have any symptoms, please note that a consultation fee is payable of £85 with a specialist nurse or £175 with a GP. This is to ensure that you are testing for the appropriate infections at the right time and have access to the right treatment once testing is concluded.

When should I get tested?

This test can be taken anywhere from 10 days and up to 6 weeks after possible exposure to the HIV virus. The sooner you can get tested after exposure, the better, as the P24 antigen levels will be highest immediately after infection.

What does the test include?

The P24 antigen test is a simple blood test. You will have a consultation beforehand, and after drawing your bloods the sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

What to Expect

Step 1

Preparing for test

Please ensure to arrive well-hydrated, as this will make testing easier. For the most accurate results, the test is best scheduled at least 6 weeks after possible infection.

Step 2

During the test

The test for the P24 antigen is a simple, straightforward blood test. The doctor or the nurse will take a small amount of blood from your inner arm, usually near the elbow. It is a quick and relatively painless test.

Step 3

Results

It is up to you how you get your results, whether over the telephone, by email, in person, or as a hard copy sent in the post.
