If you are diabetic or concerned about diabetes, our experienced doctors can help ensure your diabetes is well-controlled & check if you are at risk of developing type II diabetes.

Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the UK, which can cause long-term, serious complications if left untreated or not properly managed. With proper care from an experienced doctor, symptoms can be alleviated and, in some cases, the condition can be reversed.

Both types of diabetes, type 1 & type 2, affect the body’s metabolism, the process through which it converts food into energy. In both cases, blood sugar levels are affected, & the body’s insulin is unable to break down glucose.

Type 1 diabetes is a genetic autoimmune disorder affecting the body’s insulin production; it is identified in childhood.

Type 2 diabetes, which is more common, occurs when the pancreas stops being able to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes develops as a result of obesity & overweight, lack of exercise, poor diet, & elevated levels of cholesterol.

The Diabetes Testing Options include:

  • Platinum profile – £179 – this includes fasting glucose, HbA1C and many other helpful markers
  • Silver profile – £59 – this includes fasting glucose and other helpful markers
  • Fasting insulin level – £75
  • HbA1C test alone – £85

If you are concerned about diabetes, we recommend having a consultation with one of our experienced doctors.

When should I get tested?

You should get tested for diabetes if advised by your doctor, if you have a strong family history of diabetes, or if you are experiencing symptoms of type 1 or type 2 diabetes, including increased thirst, frequent urination especially at night, low energy levels, weight loss, or muscle loss.

Type 2 diabetes typically does not affect those under 40, but the number of cases amongst younger people is on the rise. We always recommend a GP consultation if you are seeking diabetes testing.

What the test includes

The test for diabetes is a blood test; you can also have a consultation with a doctor at additional cost.

Procedure

Step 1

Preparing for test

If you are coming in for a blood test, please arrive well-hydrated.

Step 2

During the test

Your blood will be taken by the doctor or nurse, a small sample from your inner arm, usually near the elbow. This is a relatively painless process.

Step 3

Results

Once your results are received from the laboratory, we will email them to you. One of our doctors will call you if they were the one to recommend the test; if not, you can take your results to your own doctor, or make a future appointment to see us for a consultation to discuss the findings.

Questions About Diabetes Testing

Who should typically get tested for diabetes?

People at higher risk include those who are overweight, have a family history of diabetes, are over 35 years old, have high blood pressure, or have had gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

How often should I get tested for diabetes?

Adults with risk factors should undergo screening every three years, or more frequently if advised by a doctor. Adults without risk factors should begin screening at age 35 and continue every three years. Pregnant women are typically screened between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation.

What should I do if my test results are high?

Your healthcare provider may recommend lifestyle changes, repeat testing, or medication to help manage your blood sugar levels.

What are some of the most common symptoms that indicate I should get tested?

Common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision, slow-healing cuts, and tingling in hands or feet.

Can lifestyle changes affect test results?

Healthy diet, regular exercise, weight management, and quitting smoking can help lower blood sugar levels and may improve test outcomes.
