When should I get tested?
Thyroid testing is recommended for all women over the age of 30, but symptoms can develop earlier. In general, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, or if you have a family history of thyroid disorder, you should speak to a doctor about thyroid testing.
The symptoms of an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) include:
- nervousness, mood swings, anxiety, irritability
- sudden or unexplained weight loss
- palpitations
- fatigue
- excess energy
- infertility or irregular menstruation
- diarrhoea
- heat sensitivity
- swollen neck (caused by thyroid gland enlargement)
The symptoms of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) include:
- low energy
- weight gain
- depression
- sensitivity to cold
- infertility or irregular periods
- dry, scaly skin

What to Expect
Step 1
Preparing for test
Please arrive for your blood test well-hydrated.
Step 2
During the test
A small sample of blood will be taken from your inner arm, near the elbow. This is a relatively painless procedure; you may feel a slight pricking sensation.
Step 3
Results
Your results will be emailed as soon as they come in, & if one of our doctors recommended the test, you will receive a call from them directly. If your test was recommended by your own doctor, you can take your results to them, or book another consultation with us.
