At our clinic, we offer blood culture testing, which may be recommended if the doctor suspects you have an infection in your blood. Blood infections can develop internally following other bacterial conditions. It is important to check for blood infections because they can be serious, possibly leading to systemic conditions like sepsis, which can cause organ failure.

When should I get tested?

Blood culture testing is usually recommended by a doctor. You may come in for an appointment with an ongoing illness that you can’t seem to shake, or you may be exhibiting signs of blood infection, such as chills & fever, dizziness, fatigue, & aching muscles.

What does the test include

The blood culture test is done using a blood sample, which requires you to give a small amount of blood.

What to Expect

Step 1

Preparing for test

In preparation for the test, please ensure you are well-hydrated.

Step 2

During the test

This is a simple test, during which the doctor or nurse will draw a small sample of blood from your arm. It is a relatively painless procedure & very quick.

Step 3

Results

Once your results are back, you can take them to your doctor for interpretation. If your test was recommended by one of our doctors during a consultation, they will call you to discuss the findings. In all cases, you will be able to receive your results as a PDF, either by email, post, or by pick-up in person.
