Dear Valued Patient,

You may have already read about the new data sharing requirement by GP practices to centralise all medical records nationwide via NHS Digital, intended to improve seamless care between different clinics and practices and improve information-sharing for the purpose of improved patient care. You have therefore also probably read about the privacy concerns relating to how your data will be additionally used, for example, for research purposes or shared with private providers to the NHS.

Therefore, we wanted to let you know our position and to allay any concerns regarding your data that you may have. As a private clinic, we will not be taking part in data sharing with NHS Digital unless you explicitly let us know in writing that you would like us to do so. In this case, we will share your medical records with your GP, who will then share your information with NHS Digital.

Our position is that patients have not had time to consider their options and have not been sufficiently informed as to how to opt out of the scheme. As a private clinic, we have decide therefore to not participate unless you ask us to.

We fully support information sharing between healthcare organisations and practices for the sole purpose of effective patient care but we will always:

• Let you know in advance if we need to share your information for the purpose of your care – for example, your name and date of birth with our laboratory, or details in a referral letter to a specialist.
• Ask you if you want your information shared with any other clinics or doctors for the purpose of your care – for example, if you use both our clinic and your NHS GP.
