First private provider of COVID-19 testing to be assessed, Harley Street Health Centre becomes one of the first in the United Kingdom to be accredited by UKAS

The Harley Street Health Centre, a private GP and testing clinic based in Central London has announced that it has achieved UKAS accreditation for COVID-19 testing. The clinic has undergone a robust and challenging assessment process with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service as part of government efforts to ensure that only the highest quality providers are supporting the population with COVID-19 PCR testing.
Managing Director Alya Shakir commented, “This is a proud moment for the Harley Street Health Centre. We were concerned early on in the pandemic of the emergence of inexperienced and frankly, dangerous COVID-19 testing services and the move from the Department of Health to insist on UKAS accreditation, even for CQC-regulated clinics, is one we support.
We underwent full scrutiny of our processes and procedures to ensure that we are a safe service providing accurate testing methods and results. The general public should feel absolutely reassured that any clinic or provider that achieves UKAS accreditation for COVID-19 testing has been fully scrutinised and has had to provide evidence of its best practice.
The accreditation process has been an opportunity to inculcate a culture of continuous improvement throughout the whole business and we thank UKAS for their excellent guidance and support throughout this process.”
