If you have noticed symptoms, or have had unprotected sex & have not yet been tested, we offer a fast, straightforward, & confidential service, offering a full range of sexual health screening.

Some sexually transmitted diseases & infections (STDs or STIs) have mild but noticeable symptoms. You may experience unusual discharge, pain on urination, or have the feeling that something is not quite right. Some STDs, however, such as chlamydia or syphilis, do not always present with obvious symptoms, meaning that you will not always be able to tell when something is wrong.

When should I get tested?

If you have had unprotected sex, or are having sex with a regular partner or partners, it is recommended that you get screened regularly for STIs. This is advised on whether or not you are having symptoms. In addition, if you notice any of the following STD symptoms, you should make an appointment to see the doctor & get tested as soon as possible.
• Abnormal penile or vaginal discharge
• Bumps, swellings, or growths on or near the genitals
• Itching or pain on or around the genitals
• Pain on urination (hurts when you pee)
• Pain during or after sex (dyspareunia)
• Burning sensation or pain in your genitals or urinary tract

What the test includes?

We offer testing for the full range of sexually transmitted infections, as well as a package that includes all of the tests available. The full screen is recommended. You may wish to have individual tests, such as for Chlamydia or HIV, depending on your exposure & risk factors (for example, if you know that your partner has had an infection, or if you are testing to ensure the efficacy of a course of treatment for a specific condition).

Procedure

Step 1

Preparing for test

Unless you only have a blood test, it is important that you avoid urinating for two hours before your appointment. This will give a more accurate result. Urine testing is used for STDs such as chlamydia & gonorrhea. For blood tests, no special preparation is needed although we advise you to plenty of lots of water before your appointment.

Step 2

During the test

During your appointment, the doctor or nurse will ask you some questions about any symptoms you are experiencing & which tests you want to have. You will be able to give your urine sample during the appointment, & a blood sample will be taken as well (a small amount of blood is drawn from a vein in the arm).

Step 3

Results

Blood test results are usually back within 4-6 hours, or the next working day if your appointment is later in the day. Urine results can take longer, with chlamydia & gonorrhea taking 24 hours, & some bacterial cultures taking a couple of days. You can choose how you want to receive your results, whether by email, phone call, or picking them up in person. We will not contact you without your permission.

FAQs

Are my results confidential?

Every aspect of your appointment with us is confidential. We won’t even email your results without your permission. You can come & get your results in person if you prefer, or ask not to be contacted directly. Your privacy is very important to us.

What happens if I have an infection?

If any of your test results are positive, we will organise a prescription for you, usually of antibiotics. The prescription is included in the price of your test.

Are my symptoms the sign of an STI?

Not all genito-urinary symptoms automatically mean you have an STD, but it is always best to get checked out if you notice anything out of the ordinary. It is better to have a set of negative results than to leave an infection undiagnosed.
