Discharge from your penis? Here’s why

Common causes of penile discharge and treatment
There are several causes of penile discharge but treatment is quick and easy.

What is penile discharge?

Penile discharge is a common condition that many men experience at some point in their lives. It can be characterized by the release of fluids from the penis that are not urine, semen or pre-ejaculate. While some cases of penile discharge may not be a cause for alarm, it’s important to recognize the common causes of this condition and seek medical attention if necessary.

Common causes

  1. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

Many sexually transmitted infections can cause penile discharge. These include gonorrhoea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and syphilis. Symptoms of these infections may include pain during urination, itching or burning around the genitals, and a foul-smelling discharge. If left untreated, STIs can lead to serious health problems, including infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, and even cancer.

  1. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

UTIs can occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract and cause an infection. They are more common in women, but men can also develop UTIs. Symptoms of a UTI may include frequent urination, pain or burning during urination, and a cloudy or foul-smelling discharge from the penis.

  1. Prostatitis

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It can be caused by bacterial infections, but it can also occur without an infection. Symptoms of prostatitis may include pain in the groin area, frequent urination, and a discharge from the penis.

  1. Balanitis

Balanitis is an inflammation of the foreskin and the head of the penis. It can be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, poor hygiene, or an allergic reaction. Symptoms of balanitis may include redness, swelling, and a discharge from the penis.

  1. Urethritis

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. It can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, or by irritation from chemicals or objects inserted into the urethra. Symptoms of urethritis may include pain or burning during urination or discharge from the penis.

In conclusion, penile discharge can be caused by a variety of conditions, including sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections, prostatitis, balanitis, and urethritis. If you experience any symptoms of penile discharge, it’s important to seek medical attention as soon as possible to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Regular testing for STIs and practising safe sex can also help prevent the spread of infections and reduce the risk of developing penile discharge.

    Hey there,

I have done two series of tests with urine and blood test. They all came out clean. No clamydia or gonnorhea, nothing in the blood. Original symptoms were a burning sensation during peeing, whitish discharge and some pain/itching in urinary tract. After a dose of general antibiotics all the pain and burning are gone, whitish discharge gone. But I get intermittent discharge that comes and goes in unpredictable ways. It’s getting annoying. Discharge is minimal compared to before and there’s no colour or foul smell. What can I do?
