Our London clinics are available for routine thyroid testing as well as investigating thyroid-related symptoms. Thyroid function is connected to many aspects of your health so don't delay.

The thyroid is an endocrine gl& located in your neck, beneath the ‘Adam’s apple’. The hormones produced by the thyroid are vital to regulating overall energy levels & metabolism. When your thyroid hormone levels are off-balance, a wide range of destabilising symptoms can manifest. Our thyroid function tests checks your blood levels of thyroid (thyroxine & triiodothyronine) & thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH). Thyroid disorders are much more common in women than in men, with conditions such as hypothyroid or hyperthyroid (underactive or overactive) thyroid being common. Other forms of thyroid dysfunction include:

  • Graves’ Disease
  • Goiter
  • Nodules
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Hashimoto’s Disease (an autoimmune disease of the thyroid which often leads to hypothyroidism)

Our clinic offers thyroid function tests with same-day results for the main profile, & a 3-day turnaround for the thyroid antibodies screen.

When should I get tested?

Thyroid testing is recommended for all women over the age of 30, but symptoms can develop earlier. In general, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, or if you have a family history of thyroid disorder, you should speak to a doctor about thyroid testing.

The symptoms of an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) include:
nervousness, mood swings, anxiety, irritability
sudden or unexplained weight loss
palpitations
fatigue
excess energy
infertility or irregular menstruation
diarrhoea
heat sensitivity
swollen neck (caused by thyroid gl& enlargement)

The symptoms of an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) include:
low energy
weight gain
depression
sensitivity to cold
infertility or irregular periods
dry, scaly skin
muscle aches & pains

What does the test include

The thyroid function test is a simple blood test.

What to Expect

Step 1

Preparing for test

Please arrive for your blood test well-hydrated.

Step 2

During the test

A small sample of blood will be taken from your inner arm, near the elbow. This is a relatively painless procedure; you may feel a slight pricking sensation.

Step 3
