Why have a Wellwoman health screening?

Empowerment through preventative healthcare
With COVID-19 lockdown pressures, working from home and home-schooling, it’s not uncommon for women to sacrifice their own wellbeing and priorities. But preventative health is key to long-term good health and wellbeing.

With COVID-19 lockdown pressures, working from home and home-schooling, it’s not uncommon for women to sacrifice their own wellbeing and priorities. But preventative health is key to long-term good health and wellbeing. Giving yourself or someone you love the gift of a preventative health screening remains one of the best ways to empower yourself with the knowledge you need to stay well or get better.

Our clinic is COVID-safe and we do not see any symptomatic patients in person. We are dedicated to ensuring women have access to the care they need and have expanded our clinician team to ensure that female GPs and nurses are available every day we are open. Our management team is also entirely female and together with our clinicians, we have worked together to create Wellwoman health screenings that take a holistic view.

Why should I have an annual Wellwoman health screening?

Annual health check-ups should be a part of all of our lives. The majority of diseases, including serious illnesses such as cancer and diabetes, can be caught early and when they are, are much more likely to result in a positive prognosis.

There are also family history concerns that we should all take seriously – for example, did you know that your risk of having a heart attack or stroke is greatly increased if your brother, sister, mother or father suffered from heart or circulatory diseases under the age of 55 (men) and 65 (women)? Similarly, the risk of some cancers is increased if they run in the family.

What will the Wellwoman screening tell me?

This depends on which package you choose, but every Wellwoman package offers a physical examination including breasts and gynaecological examination, heart sounds and chest, abdomen and musculoskeletal examination.

The medical testing gives us insight into the make-up of your blood, any signs of anaemia or inflammation, your kidneys and liver, iron profile and ferritin level, vitamin D level, thyroid function and a full lipid (cholesterol and triglycerides) breakdown. We also check your fasting glucose level and some of our packages include a diabetes screen.

You can also choose a Wellwoman package with cervical screening, sexual health testing and hormone testing. Take a look at all available Wellwoman packages here.

Can I add additional tests?

Yes! Every woman is an individual and has specific needs. We are constantly working on improving the range of services for women through personalised high-quality care. If you have additional or specific concerns, just speak to your doctor and further testing can be added. You can ask for any additional cost of this before you agree to have the test.

The news that COVID numbers might be on the rise again with a possibility of a new strain is quite frightening but I am so glad that such initiatives are now in place to look after the health of women. Unfortunately, our issues don’t seize just because we are facing a global pandemic
