Why doctors care about diet and exercise
The importance of diet & exercise
17/05/2013
It can be frustrating to go to a doctor and ask them to help you sort out a problem, only to be told to eat better and exercise more. But in many cases, lifestyle plays an enormous role in improving your symptoms and disease prevention.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting tips that we hope will be easy to incorporate into your daily routine.
Exercise & Energy Levels
Exercise is difficult to incorporate into a daily routine, especially when work is exhausting. But being able to exercise is directly linked to the rest of your lifestyle choices. One important first step is to address your energy levels:
- Are you sleeping 7 – 8 hours every night?
- Do you start your day with caffeine and sugar? You’re setting yourself up for energy highs and lows, usually ending in a low around the time you might want to pop over to a gym! Your diet should help you maintain a blood sugar level that does not fluctuate too much.
- Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can cause tiredness and lethargy.
- Is your diet rich with fresh fruit and vegetables?
- Are you not eating enough during the day and getting very hungry in the evening? Try to spread your food intake through the day, ideally in 5 smaller servings. This will boost both your metabolism and energy levels.
- Is your diet high in salt? High salt intake is linked to tiredness and increased blood pressure.
