The Vibrio cholerae bacterium which causes the infection is usually found in contaminated water & food sources. It tends to spread in areas that have poor sanitation, lack of water treatment, & inadequate hygiene. It also lives in some brackish rivers & coastal waters.

Symptoms*
If the cholera infection is mild, it may have mild or barely noticeable symptoms. In severe cases, the disease can be fatal & causes symptoms of:
- Profuse, watery diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Leg cramps
- Severe dehydration
- Shock
