Ultrasound is an important investigative tool if you find a lump or notice any changes. It is also very helpful as a routine screening for those of us with a family history of breast cancer or other cancers. We offer breast ultrasounds both as a preventative scan and investigative tool.
An ultrasound is a painless and simple procedure that involves the use of an ultrasound probe that sends sound waves into the breast. The sound waves bounce back as “echoes”, creating an image on a screen. In some cases, you may need a further biopsy.

What do I need to look out for?
Remember to look out for the following signs:
- A lump in your armpit or breast that you feel when you self-examine or can visibly see under the skin
- Changes in the shape, size or outline of your breast
- Dimpling that makes the skin on your breasts look different
- A nipple drawing inwards or looking different than usual
- Moist redness on or around your nipple
- A rash on your breast
- Pain or discomfort in your breast that does not go away
