Test and Release Scheme: Learn more

Learn more about the test & release scheme
In line with many other countries worldwide, the UK launched its test and release scheme on 15th December 2020. Here is what you need to know!

As we have learnt more about COVID-19, new measures that allow for the end of quarantine through PCR testing have come into play. We know that 5 days post travel, a PCR swab would pick up on an active COVID-19 infection and will also, therefore, reliably be able to rule it out.

The new government Test and Release scheme allows travellers arriving from abroad to reduce their quarantine following a negative PCR test at day 5.

Monday 14th December: In line with new research, the government has reduced the 14-day quarantine rule to ten if you are returning from a destination that is not on this list.

This means that from this date, you do not have to quarantine for 14 days if you are returning from a high-risk destination. Please note you must also quarantine if your travel involves a transit stop in a country not on the UK travel corridor list.

Tuesday 15th December: The test and release scheme by the UK government launches. This is a  scheme that reduces the number of days that you have to quarantine after travel from a high-risk destination from 10 days to five if you provide a negative PCR swab test on the fifth day. This is the earliest you can take the test.  More on the test and release scheme here
