Common Questions

What is considered a minor burn?

A minor burn is usually a first-degree or small second-degree burn affecting a small area of skin. It may cause redness, pain, and mild swelling but does not blister extensively or affect deeper layers.

When should I see a doctor for a burn?

Seek medical attention if the burn covers a large area or affects the face, hands, feet, or genitals, is deep, blistering, or oozing, shows signs of infection such as increasing pain, redness, or pus, or was caused by chemicals or electricity.

Are there any long-term complications from minor burns or sprains?

Minor burns usually heal without scarring when properly cared for. Similarly, minor sprains typically recover fully within two to six weeks, although insufficient rest or rehabilitation can result in chronic pain or joint instability.

Can burns or sprains get infected?

Yes, both burns and sprains can become infected. Burn infections may present with increasing redness, warmth, pus, or fever, while sprain-related infections typically occur only if there is an open wound or blister.

How can I tell the difference between a sprain and a fracture?

Sprains cause pain, swelling, and bruising, but you can usually move the joint. Fractures often cause severe pain, deformity, and inability to bear weight. If in doubt, seek medical evaluation; an X-ray may be needed.
